They would be wise to show it on the R.O.T. grounds. It's only fair for all those who would like to see it but will be in NO shape to ride!
There's a chance they may do something similar to accomdate rally folks. __________________ The road goes on forever and the party never ends. ~~ REK

I'm a little confused about the tickets. Do we need to buy special tickets to get close to the jump? I'm excited to see this. |

There are different areas to watch the jump. Most are free but there are three special viewing areas. Those with a VIP membership have a special area with open bar....those with an ROT armband who pay $20 have a special area .....and then there is a $20 viewing area for the general public where kiddos are allowed. __________________ The road goes on forever and the party never ends. ~~ REK

Reply with quote | #20 | Well, I did it, I bought my VIP pass. I am going alone (wife is 6.5 months pregnant and has no interest in anything R.O.T this year. But, she told me to have a good time and that is the plan, even by myself!!!
Question: Does anyone know if we can ride/park our bikes in the VIP section at the jump? I'd hate to have my bike parked far away from me, within a group of about 20,000 (drinking/drunk) people and me not be within eye site of her, know what I mean? It's not my fellow riders I distrust, it's the thousands of others who may not know the does and don'ts of respectfully looking at but NOT TOUCHING a ride.
Any info. would be greatly appreciated! __________________ Never sweat the petty stuff and always pet the sweaty stuff! |

The feedback I'm getting is there is not VIP parking but I haven't been given a definitive "no" - at least not yet. __________________ The road goes on forever and the party never ends. ~~ REK

Reply with quote | #24 | For the Knievel jump, does anyone know of tickets we can purchase? We found a couple who had purchased the package that included jump tickets, wresting tickets, etc but they have decided not to attend the jump. We are buying their jump tickets from them. We just need two more. The tickets we are looking for will get you into VIP tent (we think) near the landing.
Thanks for the help |

Reply with quote | #29 | The Knievel Jump … epilogue.
I'll save y'all most of the background stuff with a simple summation. Evel made quite the impact on me as a youth, a personal hero of mine for many reasons, to many to list. I was just a kid when I saw him jump in the Dome in '74. Okay, 'nough 'bout that.
When I saw Robbie was gonna jump downtown to kick off his FAREWELL tour during ROT, I was both ecstatic and a little sad the same time. I was thrilled I was going to have a chance to see the second generation American daredevil jump, but a little sad because it was going to be the first and last time (in person, anyway).
Cut to this thread. I waited w/much more anticipation for this years ROT to roll around because of this, personally, once in a lifetime event. The completion of a 'circle' that started when I was a child, if you will. My usual buds had already backed out of ROT all together this year and my wife was 6 months pregnant at the time of the rally, so I was going to be flying solo this year. So, in the days leading up to the event my excitement got the better of me and I said **** it, I am getting the VIP pass! That was on the 6th. Now, I was REALLY filled with anticipation … 'Ol Troublehead a V.I.P.?!?! HootyHooooo!!!!
I commute to Austin from Bastrop every day I can (which is most) on my beautifully customized/personalized '07 FXDWG (the Shovelhead in the garage, not really a commuter bike, hence the 'troublehead' moniker . I've got 14,000 miles on the two year old WG … all mine baby! Anyway, the morning of the 9th I geared up and smiled at the ROT ticket and temp VIP card hanging on the Beer fridge in my room (the garage) before I headed out for work at 0600, filled with excitement, not for work mind you but for the fact the ROT was just days away. Kicked 'er in to gear and off I went with an extra big 'ol smile on my face!
I was about a quarter of a mile from my house when a 50lbs pit bull, with impeccable timing, jumped from the underbrush on the side of the road in a flash … just perfectly timed for the t-bone hit!!! Zero reaction time for maneuvering or even breaking! It was zip, bang, down, rolling, bouncing and sliding. I remember every thought that was going through my head as I was bouncing/sliding/rolling on the asphalt, listening to the grinding of my beautiful baby sliding on the same asphalt. There were plenty of thoughts, believe you me, but the first thing after "OH SH.." (of course) was you guessed it "NOOOOOOOOO, not now, I'm gonna miss the jump!!!!!!! I knew I'd be hurting but I also knew it was NOT going to be fatal, or at least that was my thoughts as I was in the moment. Broke a couple of bones in my right foot, the left knee got slammed, other than that my gear did a damn good job. A little road rash on the right leg (although, the left knee looked like a hamburger patty) no RR on my upper body. Just some bruises from bouncing up the road. But, both legs were damaged enough (still damaged) to keep me from being able to attend the Rally AND the jump I was so looking forward to.
I have Time Warner cable and was able to watch the live coverage on the News 8 channel, all hopped up on the goofballs the doc gave me w/just enough alcohol to "intensify the affect" . The jump was just about as flawless as I'd hoped it would be! Robbie did NOT disappoint and I am sure his daddy was lookin' down with a bigger smile than I had. Yeah, I missed it, I was battered, I was laid up, my mangled WG was (and still is) in the shop but that's life for ya … "Dog happens"!!! __________________ Never sweat the petty stuff and always pet the sweaty stuff! |

Man, that is just terrible. Just thankful you didn't get hurt worse. I was at the jump and it was great. Glad you at least got to see it on tv. Heal up and when your bike is healed, ride Safe. |
